Today is July 3, 2016 and it is my birthday. Born 59 years ago in 1957. Actually, two days ago was the first day of the rest of my life, but, this “re-purposing” I am in the midst of, got in the way of writing this. Why two days ago? July 1, 2016 was Independence day. Three days earlier than our Country’s. You see, June 30, 2016 was my last day at Plante Moran, my work home since 1997. Plante Moran became my home after our firm, NCOT Accounting and Consulting, merged with PM in 1997. NCOT was my home since 1984. My life as an accountant and then in wealth management began in 1978 when I graduated from the University of Toledo. I have been practicing accounting for 38 years! Many would say I should have stayed practicing, at least until I understood it.

June 30th, I hung up my green eye shade and pencil. I stashed away my pink eraser and eight column paper. No more debits and certainly no more credits. Long forgotten will be career plannings, wip reserves, and the thing I am most excited for, no more time sheets. It has been one incredible career filled with great clients, staff and partners.

The new adventure starts NOW! (as I said on July 1). And what an incredible start to my “re-purpose” This includes:

–a new grandson born June 29th

–a new future daughter-in-law with my son’s engagement over father’s day

–great results from my executive physical exam

–a beautiful new office at North Design

–a brand new website (almost ready)

–a new company, Treu Advisors, Inc.

–great new business opportunities with Reynolds Senior Village and VisibleHand

–and a winning number on the mega-millions jackpot. (10 lines bet, a total of 1 matched number)

Today is the first day of the rest of my life! Even as I say it, the schmaltzy sound to it reminds me of Stuart Smiley, from SNL, a motivational poster from the 80’s or group therapy. But, it is, and I will celebrate it. I will be surrounded by family and friends today for my birthday, the country’s birthday and this new fantastic beginning.
