Young at Heart

Tomorrow is my birthday!   I will be achieving my 56th year.   Holy guacamole!  I keep checking my to make sure the year I was born is correct, 1957?    I have been very aware of my age and my attitude was starting to reflect it.   From upbeat, crazy songs floating through my head maintaining my youth, I began humming “Volga Boat Men”.  Just a couple days ago, the manager of the movie theater charged me the senior rate, WITHOUT ME EVEN ASKING!    Mandatory retirement creeping up on me, thinking of taking more naps and just general crabbiness.    Actually scared myself when I looked in the mirror and thought an old man had snuck  into my bathroom and was staring back at me from the mirror.

OK, so a few years have floated by.   Life has certainly provided some serious challenges and of course, that  old man looking back at me is me.   So what is wrong with getting cheaper movie tickets?   Or getting 15% off Zingerman’s warehouse store on Monday’s?  (senior’s day)  How about those incredible memories and experiences?    My wonderful family?   My fantastic friends and co-workers?   I still can have a pretty good work out, have plenty of energy to work outside and even to enjoy cocktails on the deck looking at a beautiful sunset.

So this morning and perhaps all this week, the song going through my head will be “Young at Heart”.  That wonderful Frank Sinatra song.   I would like to think that is me and my attitude.

“Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you, if you’re young at heart.   For it’s hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind, If you’re young at heart.

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes.   You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams.
And life gets more exciting with each passing day.  And love is either in your heart, or on it’s way.

Don’t you know that it’s worth every treasure on earth, to be young at heart.   for as rich as you are, it’s much better by far, to be young at heart.

And if you should survive to 105.   Look at all you’ll derive out of being alive!   And here is the best part, you have a head start  If you are among the very young at heart!”

I like being young at heart.  How about you?
